  • Brodie’s Books

    Brodie’s Books

    Brodie’s Books

In this assignment we had to create a new brand visual for a bookshop called Brodie’s Books.

    We had to create:

    • 2 logos – one main and one alternative
    • van mockup
    • bicycle mockup
    • package design
    • brand style guide
    • logo presentation

    Motivation

This task was very interesting and I got a deeper insight into working with a business company as a graphic designer.

My inspiration came from book shops, the library I work at, and coffee shops.
I looked at various coffee logos as well as book logos to find a way to combine them. I also took a strife around my library and looked at the antique books displayed for the inspiration of the package design.

  • Bergen Bike

    Bergen Bike

    Brief

In this assignment we had to design a poster and a website for a biking company in Bergen. I also made a logo for the company, which was optional. The poster was an A3-size poster and we had to include some information about every route, but we could choose how much. The website had to include every information and had to be interactive in some way. This could be by using hover or click, or any other form for interaction.

  • Trans Rights Campaign

    Trans Rights Campaign

The past few years, the world surely has seen an increase of the LGBTQ+ community. More and more people comes out as a member of the society, and the media inspires them and helps them increase their self-esteem. But there has also been an increase in death and abuse of the LGBTQ+ people, mostly the transgenders and homosexuals. A lot of countries has banned the idea of a third gender and transgender. These countries refers to transgenders as ”cross dressers” and punish them with prison, abuse or even death.

  • Dog Food Label

    Dog Food Label

Bondo is in need of a brand visual. They needed a logo, brochure and a package design.

  • Egg Booklet Design

    Egg Booklet Design

In this task we were to design an egg booklet. The booklet had to be A5 format (h210mm. x w:
148mm). And we had an attached text that we had to use. The text could not be edited.

    Motivation

I found some recipe books and looked at the grid system, colour usage and image usage to get
inspiration for this task. I used the recipe book, Supersmoothies by Trine Berge and Sara Chacko,
mainly for the layout references, because of how lively it was.

The booklet is themed after the shape and colours of an egg. White and warm yellow is the main
colours. The images have round egdes, some are oval and circle shaped, others are rectangular
with rounded egdes. This is because an egg has no sharp edges, when it’s whole.

  • History of Graphic Design

    History of Graphic Design

In this task we had to design a brochure showing four important periods in the history of graphic design. These four periods were:

    • Swiss style
    • Pop art
    • Psychedelic Poster design
    • New Wave/Punk style

We also had to create four graphic elements showing the style from these four periods.

    Motivation

I tried to keep the style very simple with a few colours and a structured layout.
For the posters I tried to create something to present each style.

The reason why I used Salvador Dali for the psychodelic poster was because he is quite an odd artist and he was very active in that period. His art even has the same weirdness that psychodelic posters have.

I used Marilyn Monroe as the main object on the pop art poster as she is easy to make in the pop style (also very popular, so I might not have been very original!), and still look good.

For the Swiss style I created a simple concert poster, with a structured layout and Helvetica as the font.

The idea behind the New wave poster was to create something funny and ironic. The concept was: what happens if santa get stuck in the chimney and who will save him?

  • Food & Malt Logo

    Food & Malt Logo

In this task we are to design a logo for a food company called ”Food & Malt”. We had to research the term of dude food and the product history and characteristic, to understand what kind of logo we should make. The logo should be easily recognisable, simple and have max three colours. The purpose of this task was for students to research logos, competitors and their target groups. We had to produce the logo in three different colour types, CMYK, RGB and black & white, for printing.

  • Pizza Menu

    Pizza Menu

    Brief

In this task we had to create a online menu for a resturant client. We had to find our own images and design by using HTML and CSS.

    Challenges

My biggest challenge was to align the items. I first used flex box but then I was introduced to grids and started using that instead. I also tried to filter my items with Javascript but I never achieved this as I am not familiar with Javascript.

    Goals

One of my earliest ideas included using Flip Cards on every menu. But I figured it might be frustrating and not productive. The idea was to have the image, name and price on the front and the ingredients on the back. But, as I didn’t know where to put the “Order” button, I decided not to.
My other idea was to use Javascript to filter the menus into different categories, inspired by Dolly Dimples, but even though I copied the code from W3Schools.com, it never worked like I
wanted. The tutors couldn’t help as we weren’t supposed to learn Javascript in this module, so I eventually removed it as well. After much back and forth thinking I eventually settled on my current design seen on my page.
